You’ve watched the cultivating series of The Witcher and now you’re looking for your next fix. The Witcher series isn’t just a book about sorceresses and demons, there is a full world to be explored.

Whether you’ve played the video game or watched the series, there’s still so much more to learn.

Are The Witcher Books Good?

But are the books any good? Like most people you might find reading a chore and prefer to watch the movie or TV series.

Keep reading to find out if you should switch the remote for a book and immerse yourself in the world of The Witcher.

The Characters

Author Andrzej Sapkowski not only wanted to create a timeless fantasy but characters that people could hold onto for years to come. No character is left without an established storyline.

Geralt, being one of the main characters, has a lot of philosophy in his demeanor, and his moral compass is always present, making him a role model that fans can look up to. Not to mention his awesome fighting skills.

From comedic sidekicks to terrifying villains, The Witcher is at no loss for memorable characters. Including love interest, Yennifer.

The female characters in the world of The Witcher are given excellent development. Yennifer being one of the main female leads at the beginning of the story. Provided with a full back story and character arc it’s hard not to become invested.

Ciri’s story allows the reader to follow her as she grows up and prepares to become a Witcher.

Ciri becomes embroiled in the novel’s political schemes, which brings Geralt into the mix. This changes Geralt’s mentality; normally, he would avoid politics at all costs and remain neutral to his cause.

Ciri quickly becomes the driver of the plot and gains more momentum than the main character Geralt.

There are numerous relationships in this book, ranging from romantic to paternal. They’re all incredibly well-thought-out and well-integrated.

The main cast of characters’ relationships are full of squabbles and flaws, which is what makes them human.

The Creation Of A World

If you’re a fan of fantasy series such as Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones then you’ll be well versed in the workings of creating a world.

If you are new to the world of fantasy books, creating a universe can take some time. From building the characters, the cities and surroundings, the interlacing storylines, all the way down to the shoes the characters are wearing have to be described in detail.

And can take a few chapters before everything comes together.

The Witcher does it perfectly. With heavy European folklore influences it can be very dark with bright pops of color through the woods and forests. Readers get to explore a new place within each book in the series.

Destiny also plays a significant role in this reality, appearing to be some type of external force guiding all that happens. Even if our characters try, there’s no true way to get away from it. The characters are made much more interesting by their various fate bounds.

Is The Witcher An Easy Read?

Because the dialogue in the Witcher books is much like today’s modern dialogue, it’s relatively easy to pick up on the tone.

Although certain information may be difficult for readers to uncover, a few terms must be translated for authenticity’s sake. Nonetheless, The Witcher is a novel that any book lover should read.

However, due to the length of each book, it may take a little bit longer to get through than your average romance novel.

Take on average 10 to 18 days to finish each book. If you’re a pro-fantasy reader you may get through them quicker. But why not slow down, take everything in and enjoy the journey of The Witcher.

The Witcher series concludes with The Lady Of The Lake. This book is about putting an end to conflicts, wars, schemes, and confrontations.

Should You Read The Books Before Watching The Show?
