Audible is a really popular service, with millions of listeners worldwide. Many people love to use Audible credits to save money on their audiobook purchases, as they can be a great way of getting a more expensive audiobook for less!

Do Audible Credits Expire?

However, do Audible credits last forever, or will they eventually expire?

It Depends On Your Country

It might surprise you to learn that the answer to this question actually changes depending on what country you’re using Audible in.

As Audible is an international company that operates all over the world, they actually have different rules in operation, depending on the country.

So, if you’re an American user, the answer is that, unfortunately, your credits do have an expiration date. More on that in a bit! However, if you’re in some other countries, you might well not have an expiration date on your Audible credits.

For example, in the United Kingdom, your membership credits won’t expire as long as your membership remains active.

Sadly, in the United States, not only do you have to maintain a membership with Audible in order to keep your credits, but you also have to make sure that you’ve used them before the expiration date arrives.

Also, if you cancel your membership to Audible, then you’ll actually lose all of your credits with your membership package. So it’s really important to make sure that you use all of your credits.

Otherwise, you’re essentially throwing money away, as the credits that you’ve paid for will be lost.

Audible Credit Expiration Date

As previously mentioned, if you’re in the United States, then you have to pay attention to the expiration date on your Audible membership credits.

They have a limited lifespan from the time you purchase them. Many people are wondering exactly how long they’ll be able to hold onto their credits for. Well, we’ll tell you!

From the date of purchase, your Audible credits from your membership plan have a set 12 month expiration date. This means that after 12 months, your Audible credits are gone forever.

This is why it’s important to make sure that you’re using all of your Audible credits before they expire, as after that date, you can’t redeem them. Making sure that you use the crests is the way to get value for your money!

This didn’t used to be the case in the past, which is why many Audible customers have questions about expiration dates on their Audible credits. Before April 1 2019, the rules were different.

Audible accounts instead had a limit on how many unused credits could build up in your account.

Once you reached that limit, old unused credits would expire and be removed from your account. However, with the change of this policy, all credits now have a set expiration date of 12 months from the date of issue.

However, there are exceptions! Credits received from either an Audible iOS membership, or an Audible Google Play membership won’t actually expire.

Instead, they’ll stay in your account. Extra credits that you buy in these apps will also not expire.

What About Audible Original Credits?

With that in mind, a lot of AUdible customers also wonder whether they can roll over their AUdible Original credits from month to month.

Audible Original credits are given to premium subscribers to Audible every month, on the first Friday of the month.

These credits are for users to spend on the selection of 6 Audible Original audiobooks that are available each month.

Some users find that they don’t always spend both of these Audible Original credits each month, and wonder if there’s any way they can roll them over to the next month.

Sadly, this isn’t the case. Audible Original credits that remain unused in your account won’t rollover to the next month.

Instead, they’ll actually expire on the first Friday of the month, when new Audible Original credits are added to accounts. If you don’t use them in the month that they’re issued, they’re gone forever.

So again, this is why it’s so important to make sure that you;re using everything you can in your Audible membership in order to get the most out of it.

How To Check When Your Credits Will Expire?

Now that you’re aware that your Audible credits have a set 12 month expiration date, you might also be curious as to how you can find out how long your credits have left!

After all, if you don’t know how long you have left on them, you might end up having an unpleasant surprise when they disappear from your account one day.

The good news is that it’s actually quite easy to check the remaining time on your Audible credits. First of all, using a computer web browser, go to www.audible.com and log in to your account.

From there, find the menu in the top right of the page – hover your mouse over where it says “Hi, (your user name)”. From there, click “Account Details”, and then find the “Credit Summary” page.

Here, you’ll find the expiration date of any credits that you have remaining.

If you’re on mobile, however, don’t worry, as you can also check the expiration date of any credits you have remaining on your phone or tablet.

Open the Audible app, and make sure you’re logged in to your account. In the main menu bar, tap the “My Account” button. You’ll see another menu open, with the amount of remaining credits on your Audible account at the top.

Why Do Credits Expire?

The honest truth is that nobody outside of Audible really can answer this!

As Audible operates in so many countries, they of course operate in different ways in each of them – and in the United States, one of the ways Audible works involves a set expiration date on Audible credits.

Audible, for its part, claims that an expiration date on credits is designed to support content creators while also providing the best value for Audible customers.

Conclusion

While it is unfortunate that Audible credits expire in the United States, hopefully this article has helped make you aware, so that you can make sure your credits don’t go to waste!
